Procedure Time:
The duration of wrinkle relaxing injections varies by treatment complexity. Simple cases like frown lines can be treated in less than 5 minutes, while multiple areas or facial slimming injections may take longer. Most patients combine anti-wrinkle injections with dermal fillers, which require additional time.
Duration of Results:
Wrinkle relaxing injections typically last between 3 to 6 months, although individuals with highly expressive faces may experience shorter durations. Over time, some patients can extend the interval between treatments.
Combining Wrinkle relaxing Injections with Other Treatments:
Patients frequently combine wrinkle relaxing injections with dermal fillers on the same day. Dermal fillers address volume loss and provide lifting effects, while wrinkle relaxing injections relax targeted muscles. Other combined treatments may include laser, chemical resurfacing and microneedling procedures. However, lasers that cause swelling, such as resurfacing lasers, are not done on the same day as wrinkle relaxing injections due to the risk of unintended diffusion of the injected substance.
Safety and Side Effects:
Wrinkle relaxing injections have been used for over 20 years. Side effects are rare and typically depend on the injection site. The most common side effect is eyelid ptosis (drooping of the eyelid), which occurs in less than 1% of cases. Adverse effects are slightly more common with injections in the lower face, particularly around the depressor anguli oris (DAO) muscle, which controls the downward pull of the lip corners. Although care is taken, about 1-3% of patients may experience temporary paralysis of nearby muscles. Wrinkle relaxing injections are not recommended for those who are pregnant or breastfeeding.

Costs are calculated per unit, however measurement of units vary by product. Here’s a general guide to the number of units commonly needed for BOTOX cosmetic. Other products may require more units however the unit price is equivalent across brands.
