Lip Rejuvenation Treatments

Improving the sigs of aging of the lips and mouth area involves addressing many factors including Skin Quality, loss of structural support, loss of volume and skin changes related to UV exposure. Treatments may involve lasers, fillers, surgical options, peels, and energy-based modalities, tailored to individual needs.

What Can We Improve with Lip Dermal Fillers?

Dermal fillers can enhance the lip size; improve definition and add support. Fillers can can restore volume to the upper and lower lip area and can be used to restore the natural highlights the margins of the lips, known as the vermillion border. Lip fillers generally correct between 6 to 12 months. Repeat treatments can be done every six months or as needed. Typically, 1 ml of filler or less is used to achieve both definition and volume.  It is best to start with less volume and add more over time if needed,

Beyond dermal fillers, lip rejuvenation includes addressing skin quality, lines  and sunspots on the upper and lower lip.

For issues such as "smoker’s lines," sunspots, and dull skin, treatments like laser resurfacing, RF Microneedling or medium depth chemical peels, are effective. These options resurface the skin and remove wrinkles, with recovery times ranging from 4 to 7+ days.

Surgical Lip Lift

A lip lift is particularly beneficial for individuals whose teeth become obscured by an elongated or sagging upper lip, often referred to as an "elongated philtrum." While genetics can contribute to this condition, it is most frequently associated with the natural aging process. In such cases, surgery is a practical solution to reduce the vertical distance between the upper lip and the base of the nose, effectively evert the upper lip, and enhance the overall balance of the perioral region.

What is a Surgical Lip Lift?

A surgical lip lift involves making a precise incision along the base of the nose, extending to the ala.. During the procedure, 5-10 millimeters of skin is removed from the upper lip. The goals of a lip lift surgery include:

  • Evert the margin of the upper lip, aiming to expose 2 to 3 millimeters of teeth.

  • Reduce the height of the upper lip

What Does the Procedure Involve?

The lip lift procedure is carried out with local anesthesia. The procedure typically takes around 60 minutes. External sutures are removed in one week. Swelling will occur and generally improves over two weeks.  The incision line is discreetly hidden within the base of the nose, extending slightly into each nostril. Scarring typically improves over 6 to 9 months. To expedite scar healing, fractional ablative lasers will be used to minimize scar appearance about 2 to 4 weeks after the surgery.
